One Large Pie with Pepperoni and Beacons? Pizza Hut Tests Beacons in China
Pizza Hut has rolled out beacons to all 1,471 locations in China, according to a report from Chain Store Age.
Customers can receive coupons, WeChat movie tickets, and other special offers discounts by interacting with beacon technology on their mobile phones. As part of the test, customers just need to turn on Bluetooth on their mobile devices and open up the “Shake” feature on WeChat to get a chance to receive discounts or gifts such as free movie tickets or prizes.
Pizza Hut is working with Chaoyang-based Sensoro and the WeChat app on the program.
Pizza Hut issued this statement on the program: “The comprehensive use of beacon technology to create smart restaurants is intended to improve the customer experience and improve customer service, while also upgrading brand image to attract more customers.”
Beacons definitely provide restaurants with a wide range of opportunities to engage guests and increase repeat visits. Its great to see how Pizza Hut plans to use in-restaurant beacons to notify team members when a customer who had placed an pick-up order arrives. However a number of restaurants are still struggling to get started with their beacon pilot. We will be discussing everything you need to know about planning a beacon pilot in our upcoming webinar: http://blog.beaconstac.com/2015/09/webinar-your-guide-to-planning-a-successful-beacon-pilot/
